Maplewood NJ Considers Pedestrian Texting Laws

Should North Jersey towns target texting pedestrians?

Fines could be rolling in for pedestrians fixated on their cell phones and not street traffic in at least one North Jersey town.

There’s nothing on the books yet, but officials in North Jersey are talking about Maplewood’s consideration of fines for pedestrians crossing streets while talking or texting on electronic devices.

Maplewood Township Committee member Nancy Adams proposed the measure earlier this month.
