Firefighters battling 5-alarm fire in North Bergen

Firefighters are battling a five-alarm blaze in North Bergen.

The fire, which is in a residential building on 26th Street just west of Kennedy Boulevard, has left a number of streets closed in the area.

First responders from North Bergen, Union City, Hoboken, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, and jersey city are all at the scene, along with the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue. Water that is being shot a the burning building appears to be quickly turning to ice, while heavy smoke conditions are limiting visibility.

The fire is less than a block away from Union City High School, along the border of the two North Hudson cities.
