Fairfield Residents Raise Concern About Historic Farmhouse Properties

Some Fairfield residents are expressing concern about the Peter Van Ness farmhouse, which was built in 1740, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 29, 1977, and currently has no plan in place for restoration.

At Monday’s township council meeting, resident Geri Helou asked the mayor and council for some background information on the historic property, located at 235 Little Falls Road, and whether the governing body has any plans for its renovation.

Councilman Tom Morgan explained that at one time the house was owned by the Wilson family, which was selling auto parts from the home. The governing body could not stop this with an ordinance because it was grandfathered, he said.
