Hackensack wants security guards in schools next year
City and school officials said Friday they will split the cost of putting about seven security guards in district buildings next year.
The plan, which was announced Friday, could put retired police officers in Hackensack’s pre-K program and four elementary schools, said Rosemary Marks, the district superintendent. It would also provide for one guard each at the city’s middle school and high school, both of which are already served by a school resource officer from the police department.
“It’s a sense of security for our children,” said Mayor John Labrosse. “Every student can feel safer, every staff member can feel safer … unfortunately right now, I feel it’s a necessity.”
