Racing Gear Stolen from Andover Township Home

2 trailers, custom racing parts stolen in Andover Township

An avid race car driver will often spend years tweaking his prized possession, investing money, time and effort into producing a car he can be proud of.

For some, that car may eventually break records on the racing circuit, but for Tom Urbik’s race car, 17 years of hard work was gone in 60 minutes.

Urbik, a drag car racer from Illinois, was the victim of theft when two high-end trailers — one of them his, containing more than $105,000 worth of race car parts — were stolen from two businesses early Saturday morning in Andover Township.

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the thief or thieves involved in the heist.

Police said that between midnight and 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, a white 28-foot Vintage Outlaw dual-axle trailer was stolen from Xtreme Racing Engines on Stickles Pond Road and a triple-axle trailer with the letters MSA and Mark Scordato & Associates on three sides was stolen from Gary’s Service Center on Newton-Sparta Road, about two miles away.

A dual wheel pickup truck with marker lights on top and over the wheel well area is suspected to be involved in the removal of both trailers, police said.
