| Woman rescued after car plunges into icy river in Nutley (VIDEO) |
Police and firefighters rescued a 79-year-old woman from the Third River in Nutley after she suffered an apparent medical emergency while driving, crashed through a fence and plunged into the frigid water Thursday, officials said.
The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Harrison Street after the woman pulled away from a CVS Pharmacy drive through in her Nissan Murano, police said. An unspecified medical problem possibly caused her to accelerate, hit a parked car and crash through a fence behind the store.
The woman’s Nissan and the parked Kia both plunged about 12 feet into the water, according to Nutley police Chief Thomas Strumolo, who said there were no other injuries.
