| North Jersey protesters say ‘no’ to Essex County deer hunts |
Essex County’s annual deer hunts are under fire from animal rights activists, who have opposed similar hunts proposed in Bergen County towns.
With the 11th annual culling of the herd underway in one of two county reservations, activists on Saturday marked their opposition to the program, which has had marksmen kill 2,158 deer at South Mountain and Hilltop reservations since 2008, not counting those harvested this week.
