| Garfield school board loses money for high school athletic complex |
High school athletes will have to wait for a home track meet after the school board missed a deadline to move forward with renovation of the school’s athletic complex.
After the board asked for an extension, city officials had set a Feb. 26 deadline for trustees to approve a lease and payment agreement thatĀ called for the city to borrow the money needed for the project. The school district would have later repaid the money.
The agreement also would have allowed the district to receive a $1 million grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres program.
The board had been expected to vote on theĀ agreement at their Feb. 26 meeting, but instead tabled it. With the deadline come and gone, the grant will now go toward extending the city’s river walk.
