Tenafly schools chief quits suddenly after 6 months on the job

Tenafly’s interim schools superintendent has resigned from his position after only six months on the job, catching parents off guard.

The announcement of Geoffrey Gordon’s sudden departure came over the weekend from district officials, who said the superintendent is leaving to “pursue other professional opportunities.”

According to the Board of Education’s resolution, the superintendent applied for a leave of absence with pay, effective Feb. 5 through April 6, and he has resigned as of April 6. He will not be returning to the district.
