| Family of 5 escapes Hamburg house fire |
A family of five escaped their burning home early Saturday morning, alerted to the danger by smoke alarms sounding in their Hamilton Street home, a sound that sent the family dog into hiding, where she was later found by responding firefighters.
Virgil Rome, the Sussex County fire marshal, and Bill Walsh, the fire official who covers Hamburg, said the working smoke alarms averted a greater tragedy. Flames were already through the roof of the Colonial-style, two-story home when firefighters arrived.
